「クリスマス」
クリスマスは、キリストの大聖祭である。
Christ-masとは、「キリストのミサ」のことだ。
子供達にとっては、サンタさんがプレゼントを運んできてくれる日でもあるが、
本来は、イエス・キリストがこの世に誕生したことを祝う世界の大祭日である。
キリストは馬小屋で生まれた。
それはパッと聞くと牧歌的な平和な様子がする。
しかし、現実の馬小屋とは汚く、臭く、不衛生なところだ。
だって家畜小屋だ。
女性が出産するには、とても程遠い環境である。
しかし、ヘロデ王に命を狙われていたので、お母さんマリアは隠れて、そこでしか産めなかったのだ。
そして生まれたばかりの赤ちゃんキリストは、馬が食べるエサ箱（＝飼い葉桶）に寝かされたのである。
なんと神様の最初のベッドは、エサ箱なのである。
最も素晴らしい人類の代表が、冬の凍える日に、汚く、臭く、最貧のところで生まれたのである。
「最善の者が、最貧のところに生まれる」ということだ。
もうそこに、「貧しいものは救われる」という、神様の救いのあり方が示されている。
さて、周りの馬たちはどうだろう。
みんな産まれた命を喜んでいたのではないだろうか。
きっと、素朴に、平和に、慎ましく、ヒヒーンと鳴きながら命を賛歌していただろう。
環境は悪いが、命の温かさで満ちていたのではないだろうか。
神である最善の者が、人間的価値において最貧のところで生まれた。
そして、両親と家畜達に素朴に温かく祝われた。
それが世界最初のクリスマスである。
素晴らしいものは、慎ましさの中にある。
そこにクリスマスの本当の意味があるのである。

Christmas is the Great Holy Festival of Christ.
Christ-mas is the "Mass of Christ."

However, because King Herod was aiming for his life, his mother Maria hid and could only give birth there.
And the newborn baby Christ was laid down in the food box (= manger) that the horse eats.
What God's first bed is a food box.
The finest representatives of mankind were born on a freezing winter day in the dirty, stinky, and poorest.
"The best will be born in the poorest."
There, God's way of salvation is shown, "The poor will be saved."
Now what about the horses around him?
I think everyone was pleased with the life he was born with.
I'm sure they were naive, peaceful, humble, screaming and praising their lives.
The environment is bad, but it may have been filled with the warmth of life.
The best of God was born in the poorest of human values.
And it was simply and warmly celebrated by his parents and livestock.
That is the first Christmas in the world.
The great thing is in modesty.
That is the true meaning of Christmas.
